Overview

This tutorial will demonstrate how to set up your UGAMail account for use in your Android-enabled mobile device (e.g. Motorola Droid, Galaxy Nexus, etc). Version 2.1 and older of the Android operating system only supports contact and email syncing when using Exchange Activesync. Version 2.2 (Froyo) supports calendar sync.

General Instructions

  • Note: Android devices can vastly vary depending on whether or not the device's manufacturer has customized some of the default Android applications. The illustrated guide follows the original Motorola Droid (Android 2.3) setup. For most devices, you can begin the email setup by performing the following steps:

  2. Press your physical "Menu" button. Choose "Settings."
  3. Select "Accounts and Sync" or just "Accounts"
  4. Tap "Add Account"
  5. Choose "Corporate Sync" or "Exchange" or "ActiveSync." Standard configuration information:
    • Username: yourmyid@uga.edu

    • Please Note: Some devices will have separate Domain and Username fields. Always leave "Domain" empty.
    • Android 4.0 users: please see the note above.

  8. On the Account Options screen, you may choose how often your mail is checked (defaults to Automatic (Push), which will notify you immediately once you receive a new message), how many messages to sync (based on time period. One day will show all messages in a 24 hour period, 2 days a 48 hour period, etc.), how to be notified, and more. Changing these preferences is optional.
